Being a “yes mum”
23 Jan
I saw this post a couple of weeks ago over at How Does She about how as Mum’s we should take a little bit more time to a “yes mum”… here is a definition of what a “no mum” is:
No-Mom [noh-mahm]
1. A mother who consistently answers “No” to most requests her children make, with or without actually hearing them.
Example:
When asked if they could get out the legos, John’s mom answered, “No, that’s too messy right now.
Synonyms:
1. mean mom, cranky mom, no fun, stick-in-the-mud mamma
Now, I’m not suggesting that I am a “no mum” all the time.. but I do know that I have say no to Miss D a few too many times. It would probably be good for both of us, if I was to say yes more often.
I love the example of a day being a “yes mum”, the lady and her kids looked like they had a fun day! I’d love to spend a day letting Miss D suggest our activities, maybe once a month for a full day! :)
Do you think you are a “yes mum” or a “no mum”? :)

The hardest part about saying “yes” is knowing that it commits you to following up with whatever the request was… Saying “no” is somehow easier – but probably much less fun in the long term!
I recently had a ‘Yes’ Day with my almost-3-year-old, and it was amazing how much better the day went after a couple of rough ones. Everyone was so happy and relaxed when my husband got home from work. It was such a positive experience, and it’s made me really aware of how often I say, “No, not right now, in a minute…” etc. (I blogged about it here: http://tallshortandtiny.wordpress.com/2013/01/21/a-yes-day/)
Hi Ange! Thanks for sharing! Good to know the day turned out really well :) My little lady could definitely do with a “yes” day soon :)
