Op shop books

12 Aug

In the weekend Mr Wonderful and I took Miss D to the Salvation Army Op Shop. We were searching for some new/old books for her to read. She really loves reading paper books now rather than board books. But all the paper ones we have a brand new and she can be little rough (no major damages yet though!). So we were on the hunt for some old paper picture books.

We were reminded of why op shops are awesome! We got 4 books for 50cents each!

Don’t you just love the title of the one on the top right? I sure am fantastic! I think every Mum should have that book to read to themselves :)

Change Table Words

7 Aug

There is one place in our house that Miss Delightful hates to go, the change table. She screams! She absolutely hates getting dressed or having her nappy changed. Doing it on the floor is worse as she tries to get away, at least on the change table she stays sort of still!

So I have been thinking about ways to keep her entertain, that are quick and easy to grab when it’s nappy time. I thought about how she is trying to say at a lot of new words the moment and I came up with this idea!

I took an old photo frame, took out the glass and replaced it with a piece of felt. Then I typed up the words she is trying to say and the numbers 1-10, laminated them, and stuck a small piece of velcro on the back (the rough side). Now the words will stick to the felt! And it doesn’t matter where she puts them. So we will hang the frame next to her change table and she can play with the words while she being changed!

I also want to print of some photos and do the same with them so we can talk about the pictures. I know that the words are too hard for her at the moment, but it can start a conversation and she is definitely not too young to learn things!

Taking time out

23 Jun

So I haven’t blogged for a few days… I decided to take some time out. Life was getting a bit much, I always try to fit too much in! Monday was grumpy day in our house, with very little sleeping. Yesterday was better but I just didn’t feel like blogging!

But that doesn’t mean we haven’t been doing anything! Here is what has been keeping us busy:

Texture Tuesday – yesterday I gave Miss D a ranges of textures to play with from the kitchen. This time it was glad wrap, tin foil and baking paper, and I threw in a straw as well cause they live in the same place. While she wasn’t so keen on the glad wrap or the baking paper (it did make a cool noise though), she LOVED the tin foil. Once she had figured out how to rip it apart she was entertained for ages. While she didn’t try to eat it, I did have to watch her closely as she ripped it into tiny pieces and then threw them on the floor. Here is a photo of her enjoying the textures.

Then during Miss D’s afternoon sleep yesterday the courier turned up! I wasn’t expecting anything so I was excited. I had won a Crayola Art Desk for Miss D!! I didn’t even remember that I had entered :) So once she woke up we tested it out. They had kindly included some crayons for us as well! Miss D is a little young for it to be set up properly (it has legs) so I let her play with it on the floor. I can imagine her having lots of fun on her desk, and I wont have to worry about it getting messy!!

Oh and on Monday Miss D and I went to the Warehouse to grab a few things and I got her a potty. It was only $4 so I though why not get one now, she is still young but we can get her used to sitting on it. Well… she loves it! She sits there for ages reading her books. And yesterday she peed on it twice! I think it was just lucky timing, but still, very exciting! So we will keep putting her on it and maybe she will figure it out at a young age :) But I’m not going to stress about it… she isn’t even one yet!

My weekly planner is working really well now. Some days I don’t get everything done, but it is great to have it as a reminder! I am still changing it as I go, just to make it more suitable for me. But I love it!

I hope that you are all having a lovely week! After my few days “off” from everything I am feeling more in control of things! Now I just hope life doesn’t take over again! :)

Oh and have you noticed that my 100km challenge is almost over?? I have 9 more days to walk 12kms! Hopefully I can manage that cause I don’t want to fail!!!

Messy Monday – String Painting

15 Jun

We sort of failed again… our Messy Monday activity was done today (Tuesday!). But that is only because yesterday really was a ‘messy’ Monday! I was glad to see the end of it!

Today is a new day and we have started off with a bang!

So for our Messy activity we did String Painting. This is where you take a peg, clip it to a piece of string and then dip the string in the paint. The pegs are nice and easy for the kiddies to hold on to and the string creates a cool line effect. Or like my little one the paint just goes all over the hands! But that is still fun.. and washing up afterward is exciting as well!

Here is my little painter and her creations:

Now I just have to think of something to do with them! :)

Texture Tuesday – Kitchen stuff

9 Jun

For our Texture Tuesday activity yesterday I filled a container with different shaped and sized objects from the kitchen. Then I let Miss D explore! She had lots of fun pulling each item out and having a good look at it! It was fun to watch her try and put her finger through the holes of the potato masher. And she really liked the silicon muffin thing, she kept putting the measuring spoon inside it! I guess she will be helping me in the kitchen in no time! :)

Here are some pictures from her exploration:

The bucket of goodies

One very excited little lady.

She loved the feel of brush

Putting the spoon into the teddy bear!

Sorry for the photo overload! I am just so impressed with her fine motor skills that she can put the spoon into the teddy! I don’t know if that is normal for 10 months… if it is don’t tell me cause I want to keep being proud of her amazing ability! :)

Now I need to think of what we can do for our next Texture Tuesday activity… good thing I have 2 weeks!

Messy Monday

2 Jun

was done on Tuesday… but that’s ok!

We did hand and foot prints and then Miss D got to paint a pretty picture! She had lots of fun and didn’t make as much of a mess as usual! We painted in the kitchen with the heater on full blast so she didn’t get too cold! The joys of winter huh?

We are both still all snuffly so we are having yet another quiet day at home. Although we have to head to the post office this morning as I sold some more finger puppets on Trade Me! Yay! And we might head past the library as it’s Words Wednesday!! :)

Keep dry and warm today everyone!!
